TechCrunch (UK), 9 January 2018, 4:14:07More than 2 million people in the US are expected to join Apple’s HomeKit conference this year, and if the company can get the HomeKit app working for most people it could potentially help keep the iPhone from being hacked.
However, it seems that Apple may have a long way to go before it has a product like HomeKit that actually works on most devices.
The company is reportedly still trying to finalise HomeKit for all of its devices, which means that while there are some major issues with HomeKit right now, it’s still a long, long way off from having the most secure device out there.
For starters, HomeKit is designed to work with only the Apple Watch, which doesn’t allow for other devices, such as smart speakers and tablets, to be used.
It also doesn’t work with any third-party apps, which can make it difficult to use a smart home solution if a third-parties device is used as a source of data.
The biggest barrier for HomeKit adoption right now is that many of the devices already on the market don’t support the technology, which has caused confusion among those trying to get it working.
While HomeKit has been around for several years now, the majority of people don’t really understand how it works.
It’s been around since at least 2013, when Apple launched the Apple TV and it was still unclear if HomeKit could work with those devices.
“The vast majority of the consumer is not familiar with the concept of HomeKit,” Apple’s senior vice president of product marketing and marketing services, David Pogue, told The Verge in January.
“People don’t have a lot of context about what they can do with Home,” he said.
Pogue was referencing the fact that most of the first HomeKit devices, including the Apple watch and the Apple tvOS, were only compatible with the AppleTV.
Pogue added that the company was working to make HomeKit more open to third-level apps like Apple’s Music, Maps, Weather and others, so that users could easily add a device that works with Home and use HomeKit with a third party app.
Apple has previously said that it would continue to work to make it easier for third-tier devices to use Home and HomeKit, with some of those updates including a new HomeKit-specific setting that lets users change the default screen settings on their device.
“It is our hope that we will make Home even more accessible to users who do not have a full set of apps installed on their devices,” Pogue said in a statement.
However, there is still a lot to be done to get HomeKit working for every device.
It currently only works with iOS devices, meaning that there’s no way for developers to build a device compatible with Home.
As well as HomeKit support for the Apple TVs, the Apple Home app for iOS is only available on iOS devices.
Pogue explained that Apple would like to make that easier to do for third party apps.
“We would love to be able to provide the same support to third party developers on iOS as we do on Android, but we haven’t yet gotten that opportunity,” he told The Guardian.
“That’s where HomeKit comes in.”
Apple is still working to build out a list of third-class devices that support HomeKit and that will hopefully come soon.
Some third-Party apps are already in development for Home, including a smart thermostat app, but Apple still has to convince those developers that HomeKit works for their devices.
Apple’s home automation project is also still in the early stages, which is why the company hasn’t yet launched HomeKit on its devices yet.
Apple is still focusing on integrating HomeKit into existing devices and will be announcing new products in the coming months.
So far, Home has only been available on Apple TV devices, but it has already been available to all of Apple’s other devices including iPhones, iPads and Macs.
While Apple is currently working on making HomeKit compatible with smart home products like the Apple smart thermo, the company is still unsure if it will be able make it compatible with all of the third-rate devices that are out there right now.
“With all of these different devices, the way we think about HomeKit varies,” Poupes statement read.
“We do not believe HomeKit will work with everything.
We are constantly working on our platform and our software to help people make the most of their HomeKit experience.”
