Computer systems suppliers bt71 and bt91 are launching a joint venture to supply Microsoft with the hardware needed for Windows 8 and Windows RT devices, the companies announced on Wednesday.
bt41, a unit of bt61, will provide the hardware and software to support the devices, which will be manufactured by the company’s global sales team.
bts51, a component of bts71, will manufacture the Windows 8 RT and Windows 8 tablets, which Microsoft will then license to manufacturers.
“Microsoft has been our primary customer for the past 12 years, and we are excited to partner with bt51 and bts31 to deliver this powerful next generation platform for Windows,” Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, said in a statement.
The partnership will bring Microsoft’s tablet operating system and the Windows RT system to a global market.
Microsoft plans to introduce Windows 8 devices this summer and Windows 10 devices later in the year.
